Off grid barns can have a variety of needs.  Simple setups may only need lighting.  Other barns may need to power different loads,  some of them are listed below.

  • water pumps
  • ventilation fans
  • 12v battery chargers
  • tractor block heater
  • garage door openers
  • other power tools.

The WattWorks Off-Grid DC Lighting and Solar Power Station is a Direct Current (DC) system which is more efficient and reliable than an equivalent inverter based 120 volt AC lighting system.  Safety is another benefit of the low voltage DC wiring compared to 120 volt AC.

DC loads powered directly from the Battery Bank include DC Lighting, DC water pumps, DC refrigeration, DC ventilation fans, DC air conditioning, USB Charging ports, Cigarette Lighter Socket, and DC Garage door openers, etc.  A DC/AC 120 volt Inverter can be provided to power small AC loads and can be connected to a pre-wired AC Load Center panel for distribution to existing AC outlets and AC light fixtures.

Monitoring and logging of power generated and power used can be accessed locally via a smart phone app and optionally can be reported via a gateway device and internet connection to a Web Portal.  A Cellular modem is available to provide the internet connection.

WattWorks Off Grid DC Light & Power systems are designed to meet the needs of your individual projects and your location constraints. Each system design includes detailed installation diagrams and instructions. All Plug and Play (PnP) cables are custom made for the lengths required with connectors.

Most applications have some unique requirements which can affect the system design. These may include:

  • specific lighting levels needed for the use of space
  • hours of operation
  • seasonal variations
  • high reliability (days of autonomy)
  • solar energy resources available at the location
  • Optional DC power needs besides lighting
  • DC/AC Inverter for AC loads
